2011 CELEBRATION EVENTS
UNITED STATES -- PASADENA, CALIFORNIA
- The Thomas Paine Society held a ribbon cutting celebration in August of the opening of the Thomas
Paine Research Library, the construction of which was completed in 2010.
UNITED KINGDOM -- GRANTHAM (Lincolnshire)
- On August 17, a blue palque commemorating Thomas Paine was
unveiled on the Ask Restaurant in the George Shopping Center, by
the national president of Rotary Great Britain, Ray Burman. The
shopping center now occupies part of the site of the George Hotel
where Paine lived from December 1762 until he was transferred to
Alford. The plaque, one of several commenorating various people in
the history of the town, was sponsored by the Grantham Civic
Society. TPS was represented at the unveiling, having been
invited.
